JANE AUSTEN FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA
12-14 April 2019

Jane Austen Festival Australia is an annual celebration in Canberra where Austen and Napoleonic fans from all over Australia come and indulge themselves in everything Regency - including dancing, music, food, games, archery, fencing, theatre, promenades, grand balls, talks, workshops, costumes and books. This festival is now a regular part of the ACT Heritage Festival, Australian Heritage Week and is supported by the ACT Government, the Australian Costumers Guild and the Earthly Delights Historic Dance Academy. Since its inception in 2008 this little festival has blossomed into one of the most delightful four days anyone could experience each April in an old and beautiful part of Canberra, the Federal capital of Australia.

Jane Austen Festival participants invited to special historical display

There will be a small display of Jane Austen era artefacts at the Tuggeranong Schoolhouse Museum in Chisholm as part of the ACT Heritage Festival.

On display will be a muslin dress with buttercup yellow under slip, two pairs of women's white satin slippers, cups and saucers and other crockery, a table, wine table, tea caddy etc. These and other later period objects & clothing will be on display in an 1880s room.

Elizabeth's display at the Museum will be open from 10 - 4pm on 10 and 24 April at 34 Enid Lorimer Circuit Chisholm.

The Museum is reflecting the early families that lived and worked in the 1880 building up to 1940 when the School closed. It has been tenanted since then but now the ACT Government has allowed Elizabeth to display her collection of costume, furniture and artefacts to bring the lives of the early teachers, their families and pupils, to life.
