JANE AUSTEN FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA
12-14 April 2019

Jane Austen Festival Australia is an annual celebration in Canberra where Austen and Napoleonic fans from all over Australia come and indulge themselves in everything Regency - including dancing, music, food, games, archery, fencing, theatre, promenades, grand balls, talks, workshops, costumes and books. This festival is now a regular part of the ACT Heritage Festival, Australian Heritage Week and is supported by the ACT Government, the Australian Costumers Guild and the Earthly Delights Historic Dance Academy. Since its inception in 2008 this little festival has blossomed into one of the most delightful four days anyone could experience each April in an old and beautiful part of Canberra, the Federal capital of Australia.

Post - Jane Austen Festival 2010

We are now recovering from an amazing festival. Curls are being straightened, clothes washed and bonnets packed away for another year. Many of us are so inspired we are looking for dance groups locally to continue learning the range of regency dances that dancing master John Garden taught over the weekend. How many of us are dusting off Northanger Abbey in preparation for next year?

Yes, Northanger Abbey is the novel focus for 2011, together with a focus on Jane Austen and the Garden. Many new topics will be added to the program, and a new venue is already booked for an exciting opening night. New presenters are coming forward, keen to offer new topics and to share their skills with others. If you would like to be part of the program please contact the festival office.

We also want to thank the amazing volunteers who worked for the festival. Without their help we would not have had the event you so enjoyed, and we would like to welcome others who wish to volunteer next year. As a thank you to those who volunteer, for each day that you volunteer at the 2011 festival you will receive a 25% discount off your ticket price - so those volunteering over four days will end up with a free ticket!

Volunteers needed for Jane Austen Festival

The Jane Austen Festival of Australia is calling for more volunteers to help out.

The Jane Austen Festival in Canberra, Australia, needs servants, MCs and attendants for a range of festival events including musical evenings, dances, meals, lectures and talks.

The extra people are needed following the popularity and growth of the festival.

Festival Director Aylwen Gardiner-Garden said: “We are all very excited about the popularity of the festival, but realise that we will need more help in future for the festival to stay alive.”

The festival first started in 2008 as a small festival with dance and bonnet workshops, picnic and promenade and a very popular Ball. It has now grown in size and number, with the ACT Library coming on board to host several extra talks and movie screenings.

Anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering for the festival should contact Aylwen Gardiner-Garden by email.
